Chestnut Hill Programming Team

Our Programming Team is one of the many club activities on campus. A trio or duo would go to compete in the Eastern Collegiate Programming Contest. At Chestnut Hill College, the programming team has been competing at the CCSE since 2019. They also took a solid gap because of the pandemic between 2020 – 2022. In October 20, 2023, Arne Bouckaert, Peter Calandra ’24, and Chris Velasco ’26 participated in the programming competition at Bay Atlantic University with Andrea Wentzell ’15, M.A., instructor in computer science at Chestnut Hill College. In the past few years, 2023 is one of the best years that the programming team had, coming in fifth place at the competition overall out of 27 teams. What is the CCSC-Eastern Collegiate – Programming Contest?

This team compete in a regional contest called the CCSC(The Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges)-Eastern Collegiate Programming Contest. The CCSC is made up of 10 regions and it’s a non-profit organization focused on promoting quality computer-oriented curriculum. Some programming languages that will be used in this competition is Python, Java, & C++. Many of the local and regional colleges and university such as St. John’s University, and Villanova are in this contest. Each team consists of a duo or trio with a possible chance of a second or third team to enter. It is held every year except 2020 with an in-person conferences resumed with the 2021 Conference. The CCSC is concerned with the advancement of major programs in with the use of computers in the Liberal Arts and Sciences and both Computer Science and Computer Information Systems fields.
